Entry Points

To encourage accessibility to the platform, we leveraged their Youtube and TED.com touchpoints to draw from existing and potentially new audiences.

  1. TED Youtube
  2. TED.com
  3. TED App

Users can share responses through the TED Voices section integrated into the TED app.

Discovery

Discover interesting discussions directly from the TED talk videos within the TED app

Responses: Active Exploration Immersion View

To encourage active exploration, swipe interactions allow users to follow their own curiosity and interest of the discussions from a TED talk (rather than automatic scrolling).

Swipe Left - Browse through different responses to a TED video

Swipe Up (scroll down) - Dive deeper into a specific response to view the discussion

Responses: Threaded List View

The list view provides a high level overview of the discussion's responses

Response Prompts

Presenting user generated prompts to help create dialogue and guide the engagement of responses

Prompted Responses

Categorizing Responses

By using categorized responses, it can help users efficiently search for content and add structure to the conversation.

Categorized Responses

Preparing Your Response: Script

A note-taking space for users to gather thoughts and ease anxiety before creating their video response

Preparing Your Response: Teleprompter

Any notes written in the script will be displayed when teleprompter mode is switched on. This allows the user to easily reference their speaking points while recording their video. The text is located at the top to match the eye level with the phone camera.

Teleprompter

Continuing the Conversation: Prompts

To continue the conversation users create their own prompts.

Reflection

Creating a space for constructive discussions online, is a challenge that many social media platforms still face today. This project was challenging in navigating the fine balance of not creating another social media platform, but also providing clear tangible value for TED.

Another challenge for this project was managing the scope for our design. Because it was an experience design project, the team and I had a very large scope envisioned for how TED voices would integrate into the TED ecosystem. Under the time constraints we learned to constantly check what the MVP was to communicate the design.
